Extensions Joinery & Carpentry in Derby & the East Midlands

Extending your home? L & R Joinery handles the joinery and carpentry side of extension projects across Derby and the East Midlands. From first fix structural framing through to second fix finishing, doors, flooring, and fitted kitchens — we deliver clean, accurate workmanship that integrates seamlessly with your new space.

First Fix Carpentry on Extensions

Once the shell is up, our first fix team handles all the structural carpentry — floor joists, stud walls, roof timbers, and openings for windows and doors. We work to your builder's programme and ensure everything is square, plumb, and ready for plasterboard.

Second Fix Joinery & Finishing

After plastering, we return to hang internal doors, fit skirting, architrave, and any decorative panelling. Where the extension creates a new kitchen or utility, we install fitted units, worktops, and storage. Every detail is finished to a high standard.

Doors, Windows, Flooring & Kitchens

Most extensions create new openings to the garden — bifolds, sliding doors, or French doors. We fit these alongside any internal door changes, lay new flooring (engineered wood, herringbone, or laminate), and complete the space with fitted joinery so your extension is ready to live in.

FAQs

Do you build the extension structure or just the joinery?

We handle the joinery and carpentry side — first fix structural carpentry, second fix finishing, doors, flooring, and fitted kitchens. The brickwork, groundworks, and roof tiling are usually handled by your builder. We coordinate closely with the wider trades on site.

Can you fit bifold doors on a new extension?

Yes — bifolds, sliding doors, French doors, and large picture windows are common on extensions and we fit all of them. We also handle any internal door changes from the extension into the existing house.

Do you fit a kitchen in the new extension?

Yes. Many extensions create a new open-plan kitchen-diner. We install fitted units, worktops, and integrated appliance housings as part of the second fix — see our Kitchen Fitting service for the full scope.
